Childcare Resources of Indian River Education Center 2010-2011

The Childcare Resources of Indian River Education Center will care for 53 children in five classrooms:

Room 1:  Non-Mobile Infants
3 youngest infants
1 Childcare Specialist

The infant program will stress the importance of building relationships with a familiar, loving caregiver which gives children the foundation for future relationships. Each infant will be recognized as an individual with his/her own schedule which changes as the infant grows and develops.

Room 2:  Mobile Infant Room
8 older infants
1 Childcare Specialist
1 Childcare Specialist Assistant

The older infant program will also stress the importance of building relationships to form a foundation of trust and security. 

Communication skills will be fostered through thoughtful speaking with children during routine tasks and in stories, music and the description of activities occurring in their presence. The environment will be structured to maximize development and infants will be supported and encouraged in their natural inclination for independent physical activity. 

Room 3:  One Year Old Room
12 one year olds
1 Childcare Specialist
2 Childcare Specialist Assistants

The one year old program will provide a safe and nurturing environment to promote security, trust and high self-esteem. The caregivers will act as facilitators, modeling language development, appropriate social interactions and will provide activities and materials that encourage exploration and discovery on the part of the child.

Room 4:  Two Year Old Room
12 Two Year Olds
1 Childcare Specialist
1 Childcare Specialist Assistant

The two year old program will encourage the growth of independence and social awareness, sensory exploration, and the development of physical skills and language development. The daily curriculum will include messy play, block building, art, music and movement, story time, singing songs, and outdoor play.

Room 5:  Pre-school Room
18 three & four year olds
1 Childcare Specialist
1 Childcare Specialist Assistant

The preschool environment and program will encourage children’s independence and confidence with the enjoyment of learning to help prepare for kindergarten.  

The daily routine will include art, dramatic play, unit blocks, manipulatives, language arts, books, music, water and sand play plus a variety of large and small motor activities.
